how to create smoke effect photoshop cs4

1. I create a new file first, color the backgroud to black. I doesn't paint on anther new layer, because painting on the backgroud layer is convenient to show the effect. Then I paint withBrush Tool  .
   
2. Paint several lines freely on the canvas.
   
3. Go to Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur.
   
4. Adjust the Radius to 8.5, click OK to blur the lines.
   
5. Use Smudge Tool   to smudge several times.
   
6. Go to Filter> Distort> Wave.
   
7. Drag the sliders to the fit values, I adjust my values as the image shown below, click OK to confirm.
   
8. Go to Edit> Fade Wave.
   
9. Change Opacity to about 50%.
   
10. Do step 6 and 7 again, I keep using the same value.
